Amma’s Ashram

Our trip had an auspicious beginning. Our guide, Purnima, arranged for us to have a special puja (which is a ceremony) to Ganesh, who is the remover of obstacles (among other many other attributes). He is the elephant-headed God in the Hindu tradition. The puja was held at Amma's Ashram in Delhi. When we came into the space, there were 30 or 40 children receiving lessons in an outdoor pavilion. Many of the ashrams, like Amma's do great service to the community. I took so many photos! It is really hard to choose!!

The ashram is directed by this holy man who directs Amma's programs in Delhi. He spoke to us before the puja about his life as a holy man and what it means to renounce aspects of a "normal life" to become a holy man. It was an honor to be in his presence. His name is Br.Nijamritanandaji.
